On Tuesday evening a majority of the Senate voted in favor of global warming legislation for the FIRST TIME. The amendment in question was part of WRDA (Water Resources Development Act) and was favored 51 – 42, including votes from Republicans who previously denounced this amendment. Unfortunately, Senator Kerry and Senator Inhofe came to an agreement that the amendment would need 60 votes to pass.

Senator Inhofe’s (R – Oklahoma) comments and fringe opinions (let us not confuse them with facts or scientific consensus) were completely off base and he often forgot what he was talking about. I heard him speak on CNN for the first time on Tuesday and his blatant cherry picking of “scientific facts” and references to scientists funded by Exxon was horrifying.

Many environmental groups, however, are declaring this a victory in principle, as this is the first time in history such a vote has occurred. It’s a step in the right direction, we need to act MUCH FASTER.
