A 46-ft long solar powered catamaran became the first solar powered boat to cross the Atlantic Ocean, as it arrived in Miami on Thursday evening. If the boat had been powered with fuel, it would have consumed 72 litres diesel/day… instead it soaked up the sun by day – and used the stored energy at night to continue to sail.

The crossing was engineered and carried out by a team of swiss engineers, scientists, and sailors. They desired to raise awareness about climate change, and their trip retraced the journey Christopher Columbus took centuries ago.
